Get lost found in this story of redemption!

Mercy's Legacy

After being released from prison, DeAndre struggles to make a new life for himself and his family. But when his past shows up in the doorway of his art studio, begging for a place in his heart and life, he is forced to make decisions that will alter his life forever.

Nine-year-old Mercy has questions no one will answer. That is, until her brother reveals that he knows the whereabouts of her birthfather. Is the man whose blood runs in her veins a bad man like her parents told her? Or a good one? Could he fulfill the longing in her heart to truly belong?

Natassa’s been hit with one heartache after another, and she’s finding it difficult to bounce back. She longs to keep her loved ones safe and secure, but her arms don’t seem big enough to shelter everyone. Not when COVID hits, and certainly not when her daughter takes off to meet her birth father. Will Natassa find the strength she needs to pull everyone through?

In 1868, Liberty’s safety is threatened by a band of night riders and she must flee for her life. Her mother—Mercy—pleads with her to find refuge with an old family friend and Liberty’s grandmother in Georgetown. What will Liberty find when she gets there? And will she find herself along the way?

I was captivated by the richness of the characters in this book. Delving deep into their journeys, their struggles, their human failings and their redemptive repentance, Mercy’s Legacy gives the reader eyes to see beyond the surface and past the stereotypes, casting aside easy judgements and ingrained bias, straight through to the heart. The plots of both the historical storyline and the modern-day storyline are enthralling and relatable. There is also a sweet pinch of growth and release to be gained by journeying along with these characters.

An amazing well written conclusion to this series! Loved seeing the connections between generations and family ties. A fantastic book series with several multitudes of forgiveness and constant motions forward, loved the book and the depth of the characters. It even held the personal touches of down to earth real life scenarios in life and love.

An original and surprising tale that is woven over three books that is at times both heart-wrenching and full of life. Mercy’s Legacy is a well-written and excellent capstone to the series. As Mercy, the girl at the heart of the story, journeys with her brother to discover a past she knows nothing about, the reader is entwined in both a historical and modern drama. The family scenes are so well drawn. Enjoyed it to the last page. Well done.

In the midst of modern-day events, I couldn’t help but find myself smack dab in the middle of this story. Hanks doesn’t hold back in wrapping up the Mercy Series. I have asked God to break my heart for what breaks His, and He did through this story. It’s an excellent read!!

I was so excited to read the final book of the series. The author leaves no characters behind. Those that we love, those that infuriate us, those that we uncannily see ourselves in… they’re all here. We see them wrestle with the events of the previous two books. We see them move forward as best as they can in their present. We see them cross each other’s paths in unexpected ways. Such a good read! Such a good reminder that no one is beyond redemption. That our mistakes and personality quirks and struggles don’t keep us from belonging and being loved… by God and by the people of God. I love these characters, and I’m sad to see them go.

In Mercy's Song, Sarah Hanks moves seamlessly between past and present from a modern-day prison cell to the shackles of slavery in pre-Civil War America. She takes you into the hearts of her characters as they struggle with love, loss, and forgiveness. We ache alongside DeAndre, Mercy, and Natassa as they choose to do what is right at great personal cost, and we see God at work in their lives, carrying them through the storms.

Sarah Hanks takes readers on a powerful journey of mercy, forgiveness, and love in action through the thought-provoking and heart-breaking stories of her characters. I could not read it fast enough and found myself thinking about it long after I'd finished.

The stories of Natassa and DeAndre are beautifully intertwined with a past that informs not only their lives, but the roots of our nation. A timely book, written by Sarah Hanks’ talented hand, is an excellent choice for your next book group.
