A Battle Worth Fighting
A Battle Worth Fighting
Two strong women, centuries apart, fight for the men they love.
Sahara Dawn married a man she didn’t fully love, only to find, over a decade later, she can’t breathe without him. The problem is, he seems to have given up on their marriage, having taken a job across the country, and is in no apparent hurry to return to his wife. Desperate to make things right and inspired by a distant relative who fought as a female soldier in the Civil War, Sahara leaves everything familiar behind, learns a new trade, and sets off to win back Jaxon’s heart. But is she too late?
Bernice Reisenfeld loves the life she and her husband Hermann have built together on their sheep farm in rural South Carolina. But when the Civil War breaks out, everything changes. Despite her desperate pleas for Hermann to stay out of the conflict, he enlists. After growing up with a grandfather embittered by war, she can’t stand to see her husband succumb to the same fate. Dressing up like a man, she enlists as well, determined to find Hermann and bring him home. Only she finds far more than she bargained for. Will she make it home with her marriage and her heart intact?
This was such an incredible story! It’s my second book by this author and I’ll be going back for more! What do you do when a book is like a splash of cold water meant to wake you up? You dive in and keep reading.
I absolutely loved this story for so many different reasons. One being I haven’t read a Christian fiction romance novel that begins with them already married. I loved that this was a battle for her marriage! She wasn’t giving up even if she felt like he was. She fought and tried everything until they both realized maybe there’s something missing that neither of them can fix on their own. This story challenged me as a wife to take a look into my heart and motives and also get a perspective on how my words and actions might be perceived from my husbands point of view.
I loved Sarah Hanks’s A Battle Worth Fighting. The story of Sahara and Jax’s marriage and love drew me right in. I hurt for both of them. Sahara had shut Jax out for so long, even though she was his wife, and when she finally realizes that she loves him after more than a decade of marriage, he’s already done, too hurt for too long. That’s when Sahara realizes she needs to fight for the man she loves and her marriage. I cheered her on. I kept turning the pages to find out if Sahara would be able to recapture her husband’s love and to see if Jax would take another chance on the woman he has loved for so long. Good suspense.
A Battle Worth Fighting by Sarah Hanks is an inspirational split-time novel that tells the stories of two women-present-day Sahara, whose marriage is in jeopardy, and Civil War era, Bernice, who is Sahara’s distant relative and in danger of losing her husband to the ravages of battle. Parallels are deftly drawn between Sahara and Bernice’s timelines, as both women take matters into their own hands to save their relationships. Sahara takes a leap of faith and puts her dreams on hold to join her husband’s construction crew, while Bernice disguises herself as a soldier to locate her husband.
Double your pleasure with this dual timeline novel. Both stories keep the reader engaged to the end.
Modern day setting: Sahara is something of a control-freak, but she’s desperate to save her marriage and ready to change herself, or so she says. Inspired by her ancestor’s example, she begins a strategy to bring her husband Jaxon home and surprises him at every turn. But will her plan work?
