And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together. —Genesis 22:8

Today my soul cried out! Where my heart and my flesh fail in my ability to cry out to God with understanding and insight of His goodness my soul does not fail. My soul knows full well the goodness of God. My soul is alive because He is alive. Because my soul is the eternal place inside me that knew God before I was formed and will know God forever in eternity. So here on earth my soul is what cries out within me with revelation and hope of the goodness of God.

Something profound and life-giving hit my heart today friend.

When we read the book of Genesis chapter 22 we see the place where God reveals His nature to us as Jehovah Jireh—God my provider. This is His Name. The story of Abraham bringing His promised son to the altar to sacrifice as God had told him to do and in the last second as Abraham lifted the knife the angel of the Lord spoke,

“But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, ‘Abraham, Abraham!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ 12 He said, ‘Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.’” (Gen. 22:11-12).

FRIEND, as I cried out to God today in worship and intercession I stumbled upon a very important truth. Something my soul knows as fact but my mind hadn’t yet been renewed in and it’s this: God can’t let us down. It’s not just that He won’t let us down it’s that He can’t. It’s not in His nature. It’s only through our limited perspective that we feel let down by God. But the truth is, He is Jehovah Jireh, God my provider. He can’t let us down. He will provide. Even if we feel we’ve offered Him everything and we are waiting for His provision.

For Abraham it was in a second that God’s provision came through. But can you imagine how long that second must have felt? He’s lifted his hand to take his own son’s life. He said to Isaac in vs. 8 “God will provide for himself the lamb for the sacrifice,”. And here he was, hand lifted, his own heart was laid upon the altar with his son, and he waited on God to come through. And God did. Because it’s what God does. He provides.

I want to encourage you today: cry out to God with all your heart. Seek Him and find Him when you seek Him with all your heart. Abraham was seeking God with all His heart that day as He stepped out in obedience, faith and expectation. And God showed up for him.

God will show up for you today friend. He can’t let you down. Step out in faith, obedience and expectation. Wait upon the Lord and He will renew your strength. Don’t grow weary in well doing. But with all your heart, seek the Lord. Repent of any doubt or bitterness you’ve held toward God.

God will provide. He is Jehovah Jireh. He is so good. And He can’t let you down. Rest in Him today. And lay all your burdens down upon the altar. God will provide.

TODAY: Rejoice in the Lord, Jehovah Jireh, and allow His goodness to refresh and water your soul.
